att Davidson is the sole proprietor of
Village Woodturning. He has close to twenty years of woodworking
experience. He began his woodworking career framing houses and
doing interior finish work. Eleven years ago, Matt began working
for a master stair builder in the area, where he learned to
turn on the lathe. For the last 11 years, he has done mostly
turning. He worked for a custom woodturning company for several
years, where he did jobs for local universities, historic homes,
and area furniture and antique dealers.
Matt opened Village Woodturning, located in historic Scituate
Village, Rhode Island in 1999. The shop is located behind his
home; a Victorian built in the early 1890's, which he has restored.
Matt subcontracts for many companies, and also does custom work
for individuals. He recently completed a job for a local university,
turning the scrolls used in their commencement exercises.
In the 1990's, he volunteered to help rebuild the Swamp Meadow Covered Bridge, the only covered bridge in Rhode Island. He has volunteered his time at local schools and woodworking guilds, giving lectures and turning demonstrations.
